My name is Gregory Fernandez,
I was born and raised in beautiful Northern New Mexico, where the rich soil has given my family life for hundreds of years. Growing up as a young man, I remember spending my summers in a local rural clinic where I became fascinated with community health. In these rural communities, I was drawn to the intimacy and joy of treating family and friends. It's in these settings that I felt most at home. The community traditions and the heartfelt stories created long-lasting memories and a sense of existence. The warmth of the people I have served will never be forgotten. I have been away from home now for 15 years to fulfill my dreams of becoming a physician. Most of my work has been in unserved communities and hope to bring this unique perspective back to New Mexico. I have studied medicine in Countries such as Africa, Europe, and Mexico but have never forgotten my New Mexico roots. I feel so blessed to finally return home to my family and serve the people of Northern New Mexico. I truly love medicine and am thankful to come home after all these years. I look forward to working with you and sharing the gift of health.
Dr. Fernandez got his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry at The University of New Mexico. Later on, he graduated from an International Medical School (Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara), in Mexico. After this, he attended New York Medical College where he completed a Pre-Internship Program NYMC. Finally, he attended The Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Program a UCLA affiliate.

I am a graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program.
I am currently furthering my studies in integrative medicine by participating in an herbal foundations course with Dr Tieraona Low Dog. This July 2022 I received a scholarship to be a part of 2024 Educational Fellowship class through Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona. I believe this 2-year Fellowship will allow me to broaden my knowledge and reinforce my healing intention to achieve a more integrative approach when taking care of patients. With 14 years of experience as a physician assistant in urgent care, primary care, and emergency medicine, I will continue to give back to my patients with a holistic personalized approach in mind.
I believe improving our healthcare starts with educating ourselves, our patients, and our community. I am grateful to share the knowledge I have gained over the years practicing as a PA to improve the lives of my patients and help shape the future of medicine in a positive direction.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking and spending time in nature with my husband Max. We love to go backpacking, climbing, yoga, and trail running. We also enjoy spoiling our two big fur babies ( Atty and Cuba) who love treats, cuddles and walks.

It's a pleasure to be back in the office with new and old friends! I value educating patients to choose their own best health care decisions for themselves, and I am comfortable working in the realms of conventional medicine, functional medicine, bio-identical hormones, as well as alternative and holistic approaches. My favorite work days include patients of all ages, genders and cultures, from birth on up, and I believe in delivering medical care from a trauma-informed perspective. I am trained in Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy, as an End of Life Doula, and in VitalTalk Communication.
When I'm not working in Family Medicine, I'm supporting individuals considering Medical Aid in Dying, acting in service to residents of a local hospice home, and volunteering at vaccination clinics and the Las Cruces Asylum Seekers Shelter. In my off hours, I'm enjoying my family and the privilege of living in Northern New Mexico.
I received my M.A. in counseling psychology from Southwest College in 1994. While working as a psychotherapist in New Mexico for the past 29 years, I also served as president of the Cibola County Maternal/Child Health Council & vice-president of the Board of Trustees for Southwest College here in Santa Fe.

My approach to counseling is an eclectic one, with an emphasis on Solution Focused Therapy and supportive client-centered techniques and tools throughout the therapeutic process. I strive to provide a relaxed and judgment-free zone to allow you the time and space to explore and experience your unique journey through the creative processes of your psyche. Clients ages 20 years old and up are welcome in my practice, and I accept most insurance.
I have always been so grateful for the privilege of working one-on-one in a healing field. I tell my friends and family I am the luckiest person I know to get to do what I do each day, to visit with people, support them, and hold the honor of witnessing their journeys. I love Northern New Mexico and its people and look forward to meeting you.
